19世纪初，免费闭关锁国下的日本。一群期盼开国的兰学者（日本近代早期通过学习荷兰语而接触西方文化的知识分子），免费在幕府掌权下，秘密复制了日本地图。为了将地图副本交予荷兰人，他们派遣年轻的兰学者道庵作为密使出发了。道庵隐藏踪迹行走于山林，而以高山为首的守山人则带着幕府派发的道庵画像，开始了他们的山中围猎……
