本剧根据都梁的小说《百年往事》改编而成。清咸丰年间，灵异路京城琉璃厂的百年南纸店松竹斋因质优货全而为文人墨客喜爱，灵异路名满京门。1860 年的第二次鸦片战争中，松竹斋掌柜以古墨为郑元培将军止血疗伤、救其性命。郑将军以怀素和尚的《西陵圣母帖》和宋徽宗赵佶的《柳鹆图》为谢。第二代掌柜张山林（马维福 饰）沉溺玩乐，连带侄儿张幼林（李滨 饰）也无心读书。郑家后人秋月（杨斯 饰）沦落风尘，得刑部杨宪基大人（刘伟明 饰）搭救来到京城，终与张家相认。张幼林因打人入狱，却因祸得福结识了西北刀客霍震西（王心海 饰）。期间经营不善的松竹斋濒临破产，幸亏新掌柜庄虎臣（刘佩琦 饰）大力革新，松竹斋改号松鹤斋，才得以起死回生。成年的张幼林（张嘉译 饰）尽管对秋月有情，却终依母命，娶米店千金何佳碧（姚晨 饰）为妻。时光荏苒，下一代掌柜王仁山（郑晓宁 饰）与张家继续苦心经营松鹤斋，百年老店...
